Northern Superchargers confirm Hollie Armitage & Wayne Parnell as 2023 captains
NEWSNorthern Superchargers name two experienced captains for the 2023 campaign
With squads now complete following the Wildcard draft last week, Northern Superchargers have announced two experienced players to captain their women’s and men’s teams for the 2023 campaign in The Hundred this year.
The women have stuck with the experienced Hollie Armitage to lead the team for a second successive season. Hollie is a local star and familiar with the team and the home ground, having played for and Captained the Headingley-based Northern Diamonds team for a number of years.
Northern Superchargers Head Coach Dani Hazell said:
"Hollie did a great job last season, and she has a lot of experience. She led the Northern Diamonds to their first title, winning the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy last year, so she knows how to win. We have worked together for a number of years, so she knows me and the squad well, and I’m confident she will do a great job again."
Superchargers have also selected South African overseas international Wayne Parnell to lead the men’s team. Parnell joined the Superchargers as an overseas replacement last season and performed well. He has played international and franchise cricket around the world and, this winter, he captained Pretoria Capitals to the final of the inaugural South African T20 competition.
Northern Superchargers Men’s head coach James Foster said:
"We are delighted to have Wayne back in the squad. He knows the team and, having played in this year’s T20 Blast for Durham, he knows the conditions well. He brings with him a wealth of experience from his international and domestic career, and that will be invaluable to the team."
