What happens if it rains at The Hundred?

You've got your ticket, you're in your seat - and the rain starts falling. Now what?

If the players aren't out on the pitch, the first thing to do is get under some cover!

If play is stopped due to rain, it won't start again while it's still raining. So if the players are in the changing rooms, you can head for shelter without worrying about missing any of the action.

When will play resume?

The first thing that has to happen is that it has to stop raining.

Once it does, the two umpires will go out onto the pitch to have a look. They're looking to see how much water is on the playing surface, and assessing how safe it is for cricket to be played. They'll work directly with the groundstaff, who know their pitch best.

You may hear that the umpires are "inspecting". This is simply an official term which means the umpires are assessing conditions. It's a promising sign, as inspections usually won't take place unless the rain has stopped.

The umpires and groundstaff will aim to get cricket back under way as soon as possible after a delay.

Will the match continue as normal?

That depends on how long the delay lasts.

Any delays under 30 minutes will mean the match plays out as scheduled. This might be referred to as "extra time" - it's built into the schedule to prevent very short delays affecting the match.

If the total delay is more than 30 minutes, the match will be reduced. Exactly how much reduction takes place will depend on the length of the delay.

As an example, if the players were off the pitch for an hour, the match might be reduced by 50 balls in total.

If there is a delay to the Women's Competition match, the start time of the Men's Competition may be pushed back to allow for more of the women's match to be completed.

How short can a match be?

Both teams must have the opportunity to bat for at least 25 balls.

If that is not possible, the match has a "No Result" and each team takes one point.

Where will I find out information?

There are plenty of places. If you're in the ground, keep an eye on the big screens facing the pitch, and keep an ear out for the public address system. All of the updates will be conveyed.

You can keep an eye on The Hundred's X (formerly Twitter) account. Updates will also be provided via The Hundred App.

If you're at home, make sure you're following the TV or radio broadcasts.

Do I get a refund if it rains?

Possibly.

If 100 balls or fewer are bowled across both the women's and men's matches combined, and both matches are considered "No Results," you will get a 100% refund.

Sometimes only one match will be affected by weather. If 100 balls or fewer are bowled in one of the matches, and it is considered a "No Result," you will get a 50% refund.
