Five England Women's Stars at The Hundred
Following on from a historic Women’s Ashes series which saw England draw with Australia, let’s have a look at some of the home stars who are set to feature in The Hundred this year.
HEATHER KNIGHT - LONDON SPIRIT
While Australia retained the Ashes, Knight led her England side to series victories in the One-Day and Twenty20 Internationals. She was right in the mix in a thrilling victory in the first One-Day International in Bristol, hitting an unbeaten 75 to guide her side home.
Having missed last year’s Women’s Competition due to a hip injury, Knight will be back this year for London Spirit and leading from the front.
TAMMY BEAUMONT - WELSH FIRE
Beaumont was England’s history-maker in their Test match against Australia at Trent Bridge, her 208 off 331 balls the highest international score by a woman for England.
She impressed in the One-Day International series too, striking 60 in the second match, and will be looking to continue her fine form for Welsh Fire in this year’s competition. In a difficult 2022 competition for Fire, Beaumont finished as the team’s leading run-scorer, hitting 138 runs in her six innings.
NAT SCIVER-BRUNT - TRENT ROCKETS
One of, if not the best all-rounder on the planet, Sciver-Brunt finished the Ashes with back-to-back hundreds.
She was the third highest run-scorer in the 2022 Women’s Competition and came ever so close to lifting Trent Rockets into the final – she struck an incredible 36-ball 72 not out in her team’s two-run defeat to Southern Brave in The Eliminator.
SOPHIE ECCLESTONE - MANCHESTER ORIGINALS
Ranked by the ICC as the No.1 bowler in the world in women’s One-Day Internationals, left-arm spinner Ecclestone took 10 wickets in the solitary Test match against Australia.
With eight wickets in six matches, Ecclestone was Manchester Originals’ leading wicket-taker in 2022. This year her job will go beyond spinning them big – the 24-year-old has been named as captain of the Originals.
DANNI WYATT - SOUTHERN BRAVE
An explosive right-handed batter, Wyatt was Player of the Match when England defeated Australia in the second Twenty20 International at The Kia Oval, smashing 76 off 46 balls at the top of the order in a three-wicket victory.
A key player for Southern Brave, Wyatt will hope her team are third-time lucky this year after back-to-back runners-up finishes in the first two years of The Hundred.
