A key day for the Trent Rockets
FEATUREIn today’s double header, both of the Rockets’ teams could have a decisive day on the field for their hopes of finishing in the top three.
The Women’s competition kicks us off with the Rockets going into it as one of the in-form sides. After two matches without a win, they managed to get two wins on the bounce over the London Spirit and Birmingham Phoenix to get them back on track.
A win this time out against the Welsh Fire would put them level on points with the third placed Oval Invincibles and would put them into the race for top three with three matches to go.
The performance of batters Nat Sciver and Rachel Priest could be an important factor for the away side, with both already playing a hand in the two victories so far. Sciver is the 5th top scorer in the competition with 136 runs. Priest has also shown she can go big with the bat, hitting the most sixes so far with four.
With the ball, Sammy-Jo Johnson has been the standout for the Rockets. She currently sits second in the wickets leaderboard with nine wickets from 75 deliveries. Her best bowling figures of four wickets for just 15 runs show how destructive she can be to the Fire batting attack.
As for the men’s side, the Rockets could end the day top of the table but defeat could pull them back into a real fight for top three going into the last three matches.
The Trent Bridge outfit had won their first three matches before taking a loss last time out against the Birmingham Phoenix and will aim to bounce back at Sophia Gardens.
With the bat, D’arcy Short and Dawid Malan are key performers with both players in the top 10 for runs scored in the competition.
In the bowling attack, the loss of Marchant de Lange will be tough as he currently has the most wickets in the competition so far with eight. However, Rashid Khan can fill those boots. He is currently joint top with eight wickets as well, with his ability to bowl any time in the match offering great versatility to his side.
It will no doubt be a big match at Sophia Gardens but will the Rockets continue to show their Eliminators ambition or will the whole competition open up with a home win?
