Oval Invincibles - The Story So Far

Oval Invincibles kicked off The Hundred on a sun-drenched evening in South London back in July. And their fans have been royally entertained ever since.

Oval Invincibles got The Hundred off to a thrilling start on the opening day. Tash Farrant shone as the London-based team restricted the Manchester Originals to 135 off their 100 balls.

With the huge crowd on the edge of their seats, the Invincibles were seen home by their captain, Dane van Niekerk. Eventually opening their account with a five wicket win.

Just four days later, they made the short trip north to face the London Spirit at Lord's for derby day. And it was teenager Alice Capsey who stole the show, smashing 59 off just 41 balls as the Invincibles posted a score of 132.

Invincibles then restricted the Spirit to just 117 in reply, to continue their 100% record in the competition. Only Heather Knight's 40 threatened that unbeaten start.

Onto Headingley, where the Superchargers motored their way to a four run win in another compelling contest. Capsey again gave notice of her extraordinary talent by taking 2 for 9 in her 20 balls.

What looked like a straightforward task, though, was anything but. Despite Georgia Adams 26 and 29 for keeper Sarah Bryce, they fell four runs short in a first defeat in The Hundred.

There were precious few home comforts at The Kia Oval in their most recent game either, with Welsh Fire breathing down the Invincibles' necks to secure a 12 run win. Some fabulous fielding restricted the Welsh side to 112.

That total was beyond van Nierkerk's side, who lost nine wickets in a pursuit which fell 12 runs short.

All of which leaves the Invincibles Men and Women with almost identical records, with Sam Billings' side looking as dangerous as any in the competition having started with an opening win over the Manchester Originals.

Nathan Sowter and the Curran brothers, Sam and Tom, stood out for the Invincibles as they defended their 100 ball score of 145, restricting the Originals to 136.

Rain wrecked their clash with the London Spirit, with their Lord's date a washout.

Having dried out, they headed to Headingley for an eagerly anticipated clash with the Superchargers - and it didn't disappoint. The Invincibles posted a score of 127 off their hundred balls. Jason Roy led the way with 52.

Chris Lynn and Harry Brook then took the attack to the Invincibles as the Superchargers won with just three balls to spare.

Fortunately for Billings and his exciting young side, they were soon back to winning ways, powering past the Welsh Fire at The Kia Oval earlier this week. Largely thanks to the batting pyrotechnics of the skipper and Laurie Evans and the bowling excellence of Tom Curran and Reece Topley. Now it's game on!
