“I’m very excited to be appointed as Head Coach of the Birmingham Phoenix Women’s team. I’m looking forward to assembling a team that can combine global superstars with a lot of the local talent here in the West Midlands that has performed so well in the recent county women’s T20.”

Sawyer has twice won the Women's Big Bash League as coach of Sydney Sixers.
Women’s teams will be chosen through a bespoke selection process. A two-stage open-market system will allow teams to pick their players.
Stage one runs from 1 September to 30 September 2019. Each team is obliged to sign two players from England Women’s current central contract list.
Then stage two runs from 1 October 2019 to 30 May 2020. Teams can pick their remaining 13 players from the selection pools.
There are three pools: the remaining England Women’s centrally contracted players, domestic players, and overseas players. Teams may have one further England Women’s player and a maximum of three overseas players.
